Steam Deck Installation
Lumo Optimized works great on Steam Deck! While there’s only one modpack, it includes recommended settings for handheld gaming that you can adjust after installation.
Recommended Steam Deck Settings
Section titled “Recommended Steam Deck Settings”After installing, adjust these settings for optimal Steam Deck performance:

Installation
Section titled “Installation”Step 1: Switch to Desktop Mode
Section titled “Step 1: Switch to Desktop Mode”- Hold the Power button on your Steam Deck 2. Select Switch to Desktop 3. Wait for Desktop Mode to load
Step 2: Install Prism Launcher
Section titled “Step 2: Install Prism Launcher”- Open Discover (software center) from the taskbar 2. Search for Prism Launcher 3. Click Install 4. Wait for installation to complete
Step 3: Set Up Prism Launcher
Section titled “Step 3: Set Up Prism Launcher”- Open Prism Launcher from the app menu 2. On first launch, select your language 3. Select Java 21 when prompted (or let it auto-detect) 4. Set memory allocation to 4096 MB (4 GB) 5. Complete the setup wizard
Step 4: Download Lumo Optimized
Section titled “Step 4: Download Lumo Optimized”- Open a web browser (Firefox is pre-installed) 2. Go to GitHub Releases
- Download the
.mrpackfile for your Minecraft version 4. Save to your Downloads folder
Step 5: Import the Modpack
Section titled “Step 5: Import the Modpack”- Open Prism Launcher 2. Click Add Instance 3. Select Import from zip
on the left 4. Click Browse and navigate to Downloads 5. Select the
.mrpackfile 6. Click OK to install 7. Wait for all mods to download
Step 6: Add to Steam (Gaming Mode)
Section titled “Step 6: Add to Steam (Gaming Mode)”- Open Steam in Desktop Mode 2. Click Games → Add a Non-Steam
Game 3. Click Browse and navigate to:
~/.local/share/PrismLauncher/prismlauncher4. Select the Prism Launcher executable 5. Click Add Selected Programs
Step 7: Configure Steam Input
Section titled “Step 7: Configure Steam Input”- In Steam, right-click Prism Launcher 2. Select Properties → Controller 3. Choose Gamepad with Mouse Trackpad 4. This enables mouse control with the right trackpad
Now you can launch Minecraft from Gaming Mode!
Controller Layout
Section titled “Controller Layout”The Steam Deck Edition uses Controlify for native controller support:

Performance Tips
Section titled “Performance Tips”Battery Life
Section titled “Battery Life”For longer battery life:
- Keep shaders disabled (default)
- Lower render distance to 8 chunks
- Enable Steam Deck’s 40Hz mode in Quick Access menu
- Keep brightness at 50% or lower
Better Graphics
Section titled “Better Graphics”If you want to enable shaders:
- Options → Video Settings → Shader Packs 2. Select Photon Shaders 3. Click Shader Settings 4. Choose Potato or Low preset 5. Click Apply
40Hz Mode
Section titled “40Hz Mode”Steam Deck can run at 40Hz, which is smoother than 30 FPS but more battery-efficient than 60:
- Press the Quick Access button (…) 2. Go to Performance tab 3. Set Refresh Rate to 40 4. Set Frame Limit to 40
Then in-game, change max FPS to 40 in Video Settings.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”Game Won’t Launch
Section titled “Game Won’t Launch”- Verify Java 21 is installed in Prism Launcher settings
- Check memory allocation is at least 4 GB
- Try launching from Desktop Mode first
Controller Not Working
Section titled “Controller Not Working”- Ensure Controlify is enabled in Mods menu
- Check Steam Input is set to Gamepad
- Restart the game after changing settings
Poor Performance
Section titled “Poor Performance”- Lower render distance to 8 chunks
- Disable shaders if enabled
- Check Voxy render distance settings
- Ensure no background apps are running
Game Too Small/Large
Section titled “Game Too Small/Large”- Adjust GUI Scale in Video Settings
